Part C is the most demanding listening task: you hear a single speaker giving a short talk or lecture, such as an announcement, a campus talk or a mini-lecture on a science or social topic, and then answer four questions. Because nobody interrupts the speaker, you have to follow the structure of the talk: the main idea, the examples that support it, and any signal words such as “however”, “for example” or “in contrast”. This section has 30 sets.

The 30 sets are divided into three difficulty levels according to the type of talk. Level 1 (sets 1–10) is easy and covers practical everyday announcements and tips, such as packing a healthy lunch, recycling correctly in the dorm building, and reserving a study room online. Level 2 (sets 11–20) is medium and covers campus services and procedures, such as Writing Center tutoring orientation, registering for next semester’s courses, and fire-drill procedures in residence halls. Level 3 (sets 21–30) is hard and covers academic mini-lectures on science and social topics, such as how coral reefs support coastal fish populations, the role of sleep in short-term memory consolidation, and how survey sampling reduces bias in campus polls. In the real TOEFL test, this part usually comes at Level 3 difficulty, so give the sets in Level 3 the most practice.

  • Every set has a topic line in the list below, and each set also has a video walkthrough on the set page.
  • Do the sets in order or pick a topic.
  • Predict the topic from the first sentence.
  • Listen for the speaker’s main point rather than every detail.
  • Replay the parts you missed before opening the transcript.

How to listen

  • Play the whole talk from start to finish.
  • You can also replay a single part on its own.

How to check the answer

  • Answer all four questions, then press Check answers.
  • The transcript stays hidden until you check, so you can test your listening first.
  • After checking, you can read the transcript with its Thai translation, see the key sentence for every answer, and read why each option is right or wrong.
  • You can also open the transcript before checking.

How scoring works

  • The Check answers button becomes available once you have answered all four questions.
  • If you open the transcript before checking, the set does not count toward your score.
  • The score summary appears once you have answered every question and checked your answers.
