TOEFL ITP® Written Expression: error identification TOEFL ITP® Written Expression: การหาจุดผิดในประโยค
In Written Expression every sentence has four underlined parts marked (A) to (D), and exactly one of them contains a grammar or usage error. Your job is to find it. The task rewards a quick, systematic check: verb form and agreement, articles, plural and singular nouns, word choice and parallel structure. This section has 20 sets of 10 sentences.
The 20 sets are divided into two difficulty levels by vocabulary and theme. Level 1 (easy: sets 1–10) uses everyday themes at about A2 vocabulary level, such as morning and evening routines, pets and the garden, and food shops and the market. Level 2 (medium: sets 11–20) moves to B1 themes, such as health clinic appointments, travel and transport schedules, and banking, bills and budgets.
How each set works
Practice tips
- Do the sets in order, or pick a theme.
- Try to say the rule out loud before you look at the answer panel, for example: “the subject is plural, so the verb must not end in -s”.
- If the same kind of error keeps catching you, review the related Basic grammar lesson.
How to answer
- Read the whole sentence, then check each underlined part (A) to (D) for verb form and agreement, articles, singular and plural nouns, word choice and parallel structure.
- Select the part you think is wrong.
- Show all sentences on one page, or switch to one at a time.
How to check the answer
- After you select a part, the answer panel shows which part was the error, the corrected sentence, a Thai translation, and vocabulary notes.
- It also gives a reason for each of the four options, including why the other three are already correct.
- You can also open the answer panel before answering.
How scoring works
- A sentence is scored when you select a part.
- If you open the answer panel first, that sentence is not scored.
- The score summary appears once you have answered every sentence.
